What is a group of turkey called?

There are different names for groups of turkeys depending on their age and gender. Here are some examples:

  • A group of adult female turkeys is called a flock. They can consist of anywhere from 5 to 50 birds and are dominated by a dominant female called a hen.
  • A group of adult male turkeys is called a gang or a rafter. They also have a dominant male called a tom, who struts and displays his feathers to attract females during breeding season.
  • A group of young turkeys is called a brood or a clutch. They stay close to their mother and can number from 10 to 20 chicks.

Turkeys are social birds and often form groups for protection, feeding, and socializing. They communicate through various vocalizations and can recognize each other by their distinctive calls.
